Psychotherapy from the human givens approach combines proven therapeutic techniques with the most up-to-date psychological knowledge to relieve emotional distress and help you move on as quickly as possible.
What are the ‘human givens’?
We all have basic physical and emotional needs, such as the need for attention, love, security, connection, control and the self-esteem which arises from competence and being stretched in our lives. To help us meet our needs, Nature also gave us valuable resources, including imagination, memory, problem-solving abilities, self-awareness and a range of different thinking styles to use in various changing situations. It is because these needs and resources are built into our biology that, together, they are known as human ‘givens’.
When our emotional needs are not met or our resources are used incorrectly, we suffer considerable distress. And so can those around us.
As a human givens therapist, I focus on helping my clients to identify their unmet emotional needs and then empower them to meet their needs by activating their own natural resources in new ways. To do this, I use a variety of proven techniques aimed at changing emotional responses and problem solving.
Why is this approach so effective?
Human givens psychotherapy is effective because it draws on both findings from psychology and neurobiology about what people need to function well, and international research studies that have established which techniques are most effective.
As a human givens psychotherapist, I do not waste time just endlessly listening to you or attempting to dredge up real or imagined miserable memories from the past in the name of ‘self-discovery’ since research shows this tends to confuse and upset people. Instead, I offer practical help that deals with mental and emotional distress in the here and now. My MindFields College training ensures I have both a sound body of knowledge and the skills to help distressed people with a wide variety of emotional and behavioural difficulties, enabling them to move on in their lives as quickly as possible.
